Dates of Events & Activities: *Saturday, August 4, from 2-4 pm is our CONNECT PARTY, an ice cream social at the PSC. *Sunday, August 12, 9:00-9:30 am is Coffee Connections in the gym. *Sunday, August 12, last day to donate shoes. *Tuesday, August 14 beginning at 3:30 in the church activity room. We will be having an after school snack for Section 5 students as we celebrate the start of a new school term. Outreach Opportunity: *In conjunction with Tracey Williams’ community outreach effort, we are collecting NEW SCHOOL SHOES for preschool to high school children. If you’d like to contribute, give your donation to either Rachel Windham or Tracey Williams anytime before Sunday, August 12. If you would like more information on the Walk with Purpose Program and the events occurring at PLAY (Preschool Learning Academy for Young Learners) see Tracey Williams for details. Prayer focus: *Our prayer focus this month is for the schools in our area. Please take time to pray over daycares, preschools, elementary schools, jr. high schools, high schools, trade schools, and colleges. Personal challenge: *This month’s personal challenge is to learn something new. *Wednesday, July 4--- Meet at the amphitheater for the city's July 4th celebration. Patriotic music begins at 6:45. Event ends with the fireworks. Bring lawn chairs or a blanket. *Sunday, July 8th:Coffee Connections 9-9:30AM in the gym. *Saturday, July 14 @ 10 AM, LeAnn Nugent will be crafting with Section 5 kids. They will be making items to distribute during a nursing home service later in the month. Kids of all ages can participate. *Wednesday, July 25, Ladies MEAL PREP night. Begins at 6 PM. Come late if you need to. Katelyn Deville, former caterer, will be instructing us on make-ahead freezer meals. Attached below is a list of the meals and supplies you will need. July Personal Challenge: Cultivate Celebration Whether it is acknowledging Independence Day with a snow cone and fireworks or singing the praises of a child's completed chore, look for reasons to celebrate. Make a big deal out of the little things. Decorate for a non-birthday party. Go on an outing. Invite a friend over for games. Eat on the good dishes. Look for ways to sprinkle joy into your life and the lives of those around you. Come on! Kick up your heels and celebrate! Prayer Opportunity: July 4. Pray for the USA. Tues. May 1: Eddie Windham will be cooking pancakes for SWITCH, the college student ministries: 6:30 at the PSC. Be in prayer for these students as they will be taking finals that week. Saturday, May 12, at 2pm in Building B, Bro. Chris Fontenot will be giving practical tips about stewardship. This is in conjunction with our Monthly Personal Challenge: Cultivate Stewardship At this meeting we will pray over our finances, our prayer focus for the month. Sunday, May 13, from 9-9:30 in Building E is Coffee Connections, provided by Edmond and Pat Gonzalez. This month is extra special as Kelly and Jakob Whaley will be honoring the ushers for our May Ministry Mindfulness. Sunday, May 20, during morning service, the church will be recognizing our Livingway graduates; some of them are from Section 5. Sunday, May 27, immediately following morning service will be Celebration Sunday, a Church-wide Section Reconnections. February Personal Challenge: Invest in Relationships Suggestions: Introduce yourself to someone. Make an effort to connect to someone in our section. Take time to chat with one another before church, grab a coffee together before work, or meet for a quick lunch. Send a letter to an elderly person or drop a card to a youth. Tell others what they mean to you; encourage with your words. Visit a friend or family member you haven’t seen in a while. Prioritize your schedule to have more time with loved ones… Feel free to share your ideas! February Ministry Mindfulness: Widow’s Ministry Headed by Theresa Smith, a Section 5 member, this ministry provides a monthly luncheon and spiritual support to many women in our church and reaches across the city to connect widows with one another. This month, we are showing our love for these ladies and our support of this ministry with boxes of chocolates and kid-crafted cards for each widow. You can contribute your support with prayer for these ladies and for Sis. Theresa. Outreach Opportunity: Contacting MIAs Monday, February 12, 6:00 p.m. we will meet at the church for a card-writing/note-sending/social media-messaging party where we will be reaching out to those who have been missing in action from our section. In addition to this, we would also like to shower Bro. Tim Harper with cards as sickness has confined him to home for several months now. If you would like to send him a card, give it to Rachel Windham by Sunday, February 11. February Prayer Focus: Section Unity Meet at least one other person in the Section for prayer this month. (Before/after work; in the prayer room before service; on your lunch break; at prayer meeting…) Coffee Connections: Join Edmund and Pat Gonzalez and Section 5 members for coffee the second Sunday of the month, February 11, from 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. You do not have to be a coffee drinker to attend; everyone is invited to fellowship. *Remember these are activities for Section 5. 2018 is upon us! Here are our Section 5 activities for January. January 3—Wednesday, 6 am-- Section 5 men meet at the church for prayer before work. January 14—Sunday 9-9:30 am--Coffee Connections (meet in the gym coffee before Sunday school and visit--even if you don't drink coffee.) January 14—Sunday--Post Fast Bash--lunch together in the gym immediately following morning service. We will end our time of sacrifice together. This is our first quarter social event for 2018! Whoop! Whoop! Yesssss. Coffee and lunch are the same day. January 16—Tuesday, 7 pm.-- Sis Jean’s prayer class for Section 5; held in building E. Sign-up sheet will be available. January 17—Wednesday, 6 am—Section 5 ladies meet at the church for prayer before work. *This month's Ministry Mindfulness: We are praying for the church prayer ministries: Sis. Jean’s class, prayer meeting, prayer chaplains, ladies’/men’s prayer ministries, intercessors, Section 5 prayer warriors, etc… *Section 5 personal challenge for January: Do something to grow spiritually. For example, become more consistent in church attendance. Start a Bible study. Use your gift for God. Establish regular prayer. Reach out to someone.
