It's probably due to the ghosts and goblins floating around my neighborhood right now, but Halloween images flood my mind when I read these verses. Now, before you gasp loud enough to wake the dead, let me explain: While I love celebrating the fall season, Halloween is much too creepy for me. And I certainly don't mix All Hallows' Eve with all that's Hallow-ed! With that settled, let me continue. When I think of people LIVING, DEAD in sin, I get a vivid picture of limping zombies with disintegrating flesh, skeletal frames, and tattered grave clothes. The dead among the living. This zombie life is deceiving for sinners. Just because they are not in the throes of eternal damnation, they think they are experiencing true life. Sadly, they are only going through the motions, trapped in perpetual unrest and missing out on the joys relished by those who have been made alive through Jesus. Those who are LIVING in SIN are enduring the decay of DEATH, while those who choose to DIE to SIN savor LIFE everlasting. These are the haints who have become saints, the ones who have traded the hollow for the holy, the ones who have experienced life that only Jesus can give. These know REAL RESURRECTION -- a state of "un-dead" that even I can celebrate.
