A little over a year ago, I was introduced to Monat hair products, but it was only this week that I saw a spiritual parallel between the way Monat works on hair and the way God works on our hearts.
One of the biggest draws for Monat product use is the potential for hair regrowth. Another is maintaining healthy hair. And a third motivator is the overall health benefits of using nontoxic ingredients found in Monat products.
Monat products are designed to create a healthy hair follicle so that the hair has the best possible environment for hair growth and regrowth. Typically, a hair follicle diminishes in size through product buildup, accumulation of aging skin cells, and toxins exuded through the body and absorbed from the environment. Several things happen under these unfortunate conditions. Hair in the natural falling-out stage remains glued into the follicle thereby impeding the growth of a new hair; shrinking of follicle size causes any new hair growth to be thin, weak, lackluster, and fragile; and new growth is completely stymied, resulting in baldness.
Monat treats these issues by targeting the health of the hair follicle. By removing toxins, build-up, and dead cells, the follicle widens to its natural diameter. When impediments to growth are removed, the follicle is able to reach its maximum potential. Oil glands tend to balance. Hair development is stimulated by blood flow and nerve function at the follicle root. Prompted by its root health and expanding to the size of the larger follicle diameter, a nice, strong, healthy hair is able to grow. The hair is more youthful in appearance, less prone to breakage, and can proceed through the normal hair growth stages—cycles of grow, rest, and release.
Spiritually speaking, we are like hair follicle. Build-up from things we have failed to release, like offenses, issues of the past, or unnecessary weights in our lives, can suffocate our ability to flourish. Stagnation, like dead skin cells, can lull us into complacency. We remain unmoved, unmotivated, and unproductive. Toxins from within and without, like negative mindsets or society’s acceptance of immorality, can pollute our souls and rob us of the richness of the joyful life in Christ.
Like many commonly used shampoos that layer the hair strand in unhealthy waxes or silicones to give the appearance of healthy hair, there are superficial, unhealthy means to treat the problem of the soul. We can find temporary reprieve in entertainment or social interaction. We can even turn to more sinful pursuits that feel good in the moment but leave our spirit broken and in disrepair. But, to have a healthy, whole soul, we need the real miracle working power of the Holy Spirit. Only the Spirit of the Lord can thoroughly clean out the build-up, the deadness, and the toxins within our hearts and leave behind the best kind of environment for our spirit to grow.
Just like a clean hair follicle, a clean soul creates the optimum environment for us to flourish in purpose, to enjoy life, and to fulfill our potential. Without gunky hindrances, all that we have going for us is able to thrive. The blood of Jesus unites us, the oil of His anointing empowers us, and the nudge of His Spirit motivates us.
Unlike department store shampoo, Monat usage requires specific instructions. When we follow the Word of God and invite the Holy Spirit into our lives, we enjoy the best possible environment for our mind, body, and spirit. Like luxurious, Monat hair, a life cleaned, protected, and propelled by the Spirit will grow. It will be full and strong. It will cycle through stages of growth, rest, and release. And it will shine, shine, shine!
