In the frantic pace of life, we can often lose our way, our communication with God, and our spiritual focus—the keys, phone, and glasses of our spirit man. Sometimes, we take what is in order in our lives to re-center what has gone amuck and quickly regain our spiritual footing. For example, we continue to pray, and our direction becomes clear, or we keep doing the right things, and we again hear from God. But other times, we lose our focus and search in all the wrong places to find clarity. Feeling that sense of loss, we turn to self-help books, You-Tube advice, other people’s opinions, and positive podcasts, when the answer is, and always will be, a close encounter with God’s Word.
Of all the Scripture, Psalm 119 most beautifully illustrates the concept of God’s Word. Each verse proclaims some aspect of the testimonies, laws, and precepts of God, including everything from it’s beauty and power, it’s worth and versatility, to our need for and responsibility to it. 1 Peter 1 declares that God’s Word lives and endures forever, and Jesus, Himself, repeatedly stated in the Gospels that His word would not pass away. Since the Word remains reliable and steadfast, it can be trusted. It is a worthy of both devotion and delight. Therefore, when tumultuous times arise or sudden shifts cause a blurring of spiritual sight, focus can be regained through renewed intimacy with the Word. With this right as it should be, we can grab our keys of spiritual momentum, pick up a renewed Heavenly signal, and confidently pursue what our restored vision enables us to see.
Tip/Tidbit: Read one section of Psalm 119 each day. Choose one verse from the passage to think about throughout the day.
