Genesis 1:1-5 "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void and darkness was upon the face of the deep..."
Isn't it interesting that the earth God created--the beautiful earth filled with waterfalls and gardens and delightful creatures--started out formless, void, and dark? It's no less true of God's work in our lives. Situations that are chaotic, empty, and ominous are where God is performing wonders. They are the starting point of His grand, creative work.
If you've ever attempted a DIY project, you know this is part of the process. The bad comes first. Breaking something down allows a good renovation. Blobs of ugly are the beginning stages of exquisite art. Threads turn into fabric and things both fun and functional. In the same way, God's beautiful, glorious, better-than-I-can imagine plan sometimes doesn't look so fantastic at the onset. But He's not finished. What He begins will become a masterpiece.
It's in the black, formless, void where God's Spirit moves, His Word speaks, His essence floods in, and suddenly, light erupts. It is glorious, and it is good! "And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good:.."
God's Word is still that voice, working in conjunction with His Spirit to fill our emptiness, straighten out our chaos, and invade our dark with transforming Light. Just like it did in THE beginning, something changes when the Word is spoken into our situations. There is a divine "Let there be!"... and there IS!...and it is good.
Tip/Tidbit: Are you facing situations that appear void, dark, and chaotic? Take courage! The work of God has begun! His presence hovers near! Begin to speak His Word, and watch as light begins to shine, making you more and more aware of Him and the beauty that is yet to come.
